D’fhógair An tOireachtas inniu, 17 Iúil 2019, go raibh an próiseas ainmniúcháin do Ghradaim Chumarsáide an Oireachtais 2019 oscailte. Marc aitheantais is ea Gradaim Chumarsáide an Oireachtais ar shár-chaighdeán i gcomhthéacs cláir Ghaeilge in earnáil na cumarsáide. I mbliana, le tacaíocht úr ó Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann, tá réimse na ngradam á leathnú amach agus dhá chatagóir nua dírithe ar raidiónna pobail agus raidiónna tráchtála, á bhfógairt.

“Tá sé tábhachtach go n-aithneofaí go bhfuil sárchláracha i nGaeilge á soláthar ag seirbhísí craolacháin eile sa tír chomh maith leo siúd atá ag feidhmiú go príomha trí Ghaeilge”, a dúirt Liam Ó Maolaodha, Stiúrthóir an Oireachtais. “Tabharfaidh an dá gradam nua seo, do Chlár na Bliana ar Raidió Pobail agus do Chlár na Bliana ar Raidió Tráchtála léargas ar raon agus ar réimse na cruthaitheachta i nGaeilge atá ar aerthonnta na tíre.”

Dúirt Príomhfheidhmeannach ÚCÉ, Michael O’Keeffe, “Tá lúcháir ar Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann urraíocht a dhéanamh ar dhá ghradam úr do chláir Ghaeilge ar raidiónna pobail agus raidiónna tráchtála a thabharfaidh aitheantas do chruthaitheacht agus do thallann na ndaoine san earnáil raidió a sholáthraíonn cláir Ghaeilge ar ardchaighdeán. Tagann na gradaim seo le cuspóirí ÚCÉ i dtaca le tírdhreach meán in Éirinn atá ionadaíoch ar ilghnéitheacht na sochaí sa tír agus a dhéanann soláthar dó. Táimid ag tnúth le bualadh leis na hainmnithe agus na buaiteoirí ag searmamas bronnta na ngradam le linn fhéile bhliantúil an Oireachtais”.

Is iad na catagóirí gradam eile atá fógartha ná Sraith Teilifíse na Bliana; Sraith Raidió na Bliana; Scannán/Clár Teilifíse na Bliana; Pearsa Teilifíse na Bliana; Pearsa Raidió na Bliana; Iriseoir na Bliana; Feachtas Meán Sóisialta na Bliana; agus Réalta Óg na Bliana. Ar bhonn vóta ón bpobal is ea a roghnófar Réalta Óg na Bliana agus beidh tús á chur leis an vótáil sin tráth a bhfógrófar na gearrliostaí.

An tOireachtas today (July 17th, 2019) announced the opening of the Nominations Process for the Oireachtas Media Awards. The Awards, which are presented annually, are recognised as a mark of excellence in Irish language broadcasting. Two new categories, sponsored by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, have been added to the 2019 list of awards and are specific to the Community and Commercial Radio sectors.

“It is important to recognise the wealth of excellent programmes in Irish being provided by community and commercial broadcast services”, said Liam Ó Maolaodha, National Director of An tOireachtas. “The introduction of the two new Awards, for Programme of the Year on Community Radio and Programme of the Year on Commercial Radio will serve to highlight the range and diversity of creative Irish-language programmes on our airwaves.”

Commenting, BAI Chief Executive, Michael O’Keeffe said “The BAI is delighted to sponsor two awards for Irish language programmes on community and commercial radio that recognise the creativity and talent of people in the radio sector making high quality programming in the Irish language. These awards support the BAI’s objective of fostering a media landscape that represents and serves the diversity of Irish society and we look forward to seeing the nominees and eventual winners at the Gala Event at the annual Oireachtas Festival”.

Other award categories include Television Series of the Year; Radio Series of the Year; Television Programme / Film of the Year; Television Personality of the Year; Radio Personality of the Year; Journalist of the Year; Social Media Campaign of the Year and the Rising Star Award. All award recipients, excluding the Award for the Rising Star, are selected by a panel of judges. The recipient of the Rising Star Award is selected by public vote and lines will open when shortlists are announced.

Programmes broadcast in the last twelve months only are eligible for submission and recipients of 2018 Oireachtas Media Awards should not be nominated. (See list HERE.) The deadline for submissions is 5.00 pm, Friday, August 16th, 2019.

Online nominations may be submitted at www.antoireachtas.ie/gradaim-chumarsaide. Shortlists for all categories will be announced on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 and Awards will be presented at a Gala Event in Citywest, Co. Dublin, on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019, during the annual Oireachtas Festival.

  1. The Oireachtas Media Awards were established by An tOireachtas in 1999 and have been bestowed every year since at an Annual Awards Ceremony. 
  2. The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland sponsors the categories for Commercial & Community Radio.
  3. An tOireachtas is a lead organization in the Irish Language sector charged with ‘Organising & Promoting Events as Gaeilge & Establishing Irish Language Networks and receives core-funding from Foras na Gaeilge.
  4. The national arts and culture festival, Oireachtas na Samhna, is the annual showcase event organized by An tOireachtas featuring the best of sean-nós (traditional old style) performing arts. The festival programme includes junior and senior competitions, formal and informal music and singing sessions, exhibitions, seminars, drama and a host of fringe events. The 2019 festival will be held in South County Dublin, from Tuesday, October 30th, - Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 and approximately 10,000 visitors are expected to attend over the five days.
